UBS Execution Hub hires multiple senior buy-side traders as expansion continues

  • August 2, 2022

According to an internal memo, as seen by The DESK, Ian Power has joined UBS Execution Hub as head of UK execution, one of several new hires from buy-side trading desks, which include Paul Christophorou and Gozde Yildiz in London, with Dirk Heim in Frankfurt.

Chris Blackburn, head of EMEA for UBS Execution Hub, which provides a cross-product outsourced execution platform for asset managers and hedge funds, wrote in the memo, “Our London execution team is led by Ian Power who joins from Newton Investment Management, where he was responsible for trading both cash and derivatives instruments across all asset classes, with a bias towards fixed income. Prior to his role at Newton, Ian was head of trading in London for Standard Life Investments and before that ran [derivatives] trading at Ignis Asset Management.”

He continued, “Paul Christophorou spent 19 years as a senior global trader for Odey Asset Management, where he was responsible for trading equities, ETF’s, equity and bond futures and commodities.  Most recently Paul spent 14 months running a propriety futures fund with Axia Futures. Gozde Yildiz joined UBS Execution Hub as a multi-asset trader, where she will be primarily focusing on fixed income, equities and derivatives trading. Prior joining UBS, Gozde was at a boutique firm trading government bonds, SSA, credit and equities”

Looking at the Frankfurt team, Blackburn noted, “Our Frankfurt execution team is led by Dirk Heim who joins from Quoniam Asset Management. Dirk spent the first 10 years of his career in various sell-side trading roles.  He moved to the buy side in 2006, covering global equity cash and derivatives for Merrill Lynch’s Strategic Investment Group, Marble Bar Asset Management and BTG’s GEMM Funds before moving to Quonium where he managed the execution of global equity portfolio baskets alongside derivatives and FX. Dennis Reinheimer has been working for UBS for more than 8 years as multi asset trader for Financial Intermediaries (FIM), servicing external asset managers and institutional clients. In addition to cash equities, options & futures execution, Dennis helped PM’s to structure and hedge their portfolios and generate trading ideas.”

Helm will be head of EU execution. The UBS Execution Hub expansion began last year in the US with the hire of Jon Slavin as head of UBS Execution Hub Americas in June 2021. Slavin is formerly of Morgan Stanley Investment Management and reports into Mark Goodman who is overall heading up the team as global head of UBS Execution Hub, based in London.
